MCs named for survival singing show

Trot singer Jang Yun-jeong and freelance emcee Kim Sung-joo were chosen to host a new entertainment show on JTBC next month, according to local media yesterday.

Tentatively called “100 Persons 100 Songs - Survive Until the End,” the show will kick off in mid-October on cable channel JTBC, an affiliate of the Korea JoongAng Daily.

The new program will run on a survival format, with six celebrities and 100 guests taking part.

After each guest submits his or her favorite song, the stars will take turns randomly choosing a number and singing the correspondent song with the contestant who chose the piece.

If the duo finishes the song without making a mistake, they will advance to the next round as a pair. The couple that wins the final match will get a prize.

Jang launched her singing career in 2004 with her greatest hit “Oh My,” and has since been working in showbiz as a trot singer and an emcee. She previously hosted the SBS singing show “Challenge 1,000 Songs,” which aired from 2000 to June this year.

Kim initially started off as a television presenter on MBC in 2000, but left the broadcaster in 2007, announcing that he would go freelance. He has since hosted numerous shows, including the current “Superstar K” series on Mnet, “Martian Virus” (2013) and “tvN eNEWS” on tvN, which is now airing.
