Top KBS award goes to Yoo

Yoo Jae-suk is considered the nation’s top comedian and he lived up to his reputation by earning the grand prize from the 2014 KBS Entertainment Awards on Dec. 27.

The last grand prize he earned from KBS was in 2005.

The 42-year-old entertainer was nominated for the highest award with rival comedians Kang Ho-dong from “Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education” and Kim Jun-ho from “One Night Two Days.”

But Yoo was rewarded for leading the late-night talk show “Happy Together” for 10 years and launching a new reality TV show “I am Man.”

“I really didn’t know [that I was going to receive the grand prize],” Yoo said at the awards. “I’ve received many awards but I don’t know what to say. To my co-workers and my family, thank you.”

With the grand award from KBS, Yoo has earned a total of 11 grand prizes from three major broadcasters including KBS, MBC and SBS.

Comedian Park Mi-sun, who is co-hosting “Happy Together” with Yoo, supported him prior to the announcement of the prize by saying, “Many TV shows come and go but you are hosting the same show for 10 years and it is all due to your ability.”

Meanwhile, “Return of Superman” was chosen as the show of the year. In the reality TV show, celebrity fathers take care of their children for 48 hours without their wives.
