Kim Sung-min succumbs to suicide attempt

Actor Kim Sung-min was pronounced brain dead Sunday morning and his family agreed to donate his organs, according to Seoul St. Mary Hospital’s medical team.

The 43-year-old fell into a coma after he tried to commit suicide at his home on June 24. He was found by local police after his family reported he was in danger of harming himself. His wife reportedly told police she had fought with Kim and asked them to check on him, as he had threatened to kill himself.

His organs, including his kidneys and corneas, will be donated to five different patients after being removed at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Kim rose to popularity with MBC’s drama “Mermaid Lady” (2002). He had a lengthy run as a successful actor, but was arrested for drug use in 2010. His original sentence was suspended, but went to prison after being caught using drugs again in March 2015. He was released in January.
