A seaside stroll with a cup of joe
Wondering what the sub-host city of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games has to offer? The coastal city of Gangneung, 210 kilometers (130.4 miles) east of Seoul, the Olympic city where the ice events were held during the international sporting event has many venues to check out for those who enjoy the fresh air from the sea.
One place that is a must-visit for any traveler is the famed Cafe Street, which stretches for 6 kilometers along the coast line facing the East Sea. Stretched along the Gangmun and Gyeongpo beaches, the Cafe Street is filled with unique local coffee shops and coffee franchises such as Starbucks and Hollys Coffee and offers visitors a chance to enjoy a freshly brewed coffee with the beautiful view.
One can reach the Cafe Street from Seoul by getting off at Gangneung Station, which can be reached in less than 2 hours from Seoul Station thanks to a new KTX route linking the two cities that opened in December, two months ahead of the PyeongChang Olympic Games.
From Gangneung Station, it takes about 10 minutes by car to get to the coffee shops. The taxi fare should be about 4,000 won ($3.70).
