‘The King’ wants to enter the jungle : After breaking ratings records, Yoon Si-yoon isn’t ready to take a rest
Actor Yoon Si-yoon recently wrapped up his TV Chosun weekend drama “The King” and is currently on the set of the SBS reality program “Law of the Jungle.” [MOA ENTERTAINMENT]
Yoon has recently broke another viewership record for cable channel TV Chosun with his drama “The King.”
“I didn’t expect it at all. I think it is all thanks to my co-stars. The best part of this project was getting to work with actors like Joo Sang-wook and Jin Se-yun,” said Yoon in an interview with Ilgan Sports, an affiliate of the Korea JoongAng Daily.
The actor also shared his hopes of showing fans the different sides of his identity. Yoon is not only an actor, but also a singer and loves to challenge himself. He released his own single titled “You’re Like Spring” in April. Yoon said, “I wanted to show my fans who give me so much love a different side of me. This was also the reason why I decided to join the SBS reality show ‘Law of the Jungle.’”
The following are edited excerpts from the interview.
Q. You don’t give yourself a break.
A. In the past, I really wanted to rest, but realized that I didn’t have anything to do while taking a break. I think I’m really bad at enjoying free time. I can always rest while I’m preparing for the next project. I think that is enough. Even when I’m resting, I like to be productive. If I had the capacity, I would keep working on projects. However, I don’t want to work myself too hard all because of greed.
What is it like working with Jin Se-yun?
She is a very kind and warm-hearted friend. We were shooting during the winter, and Jin was there chatting with the cast. I thought to myself, “She’s very easygoing with others!” and it turns out she was actually giving each of the cast members a hot pack. It was nice to see her being so considerate. I realized what a truly great actor I was working with.
What about Joo Sang-wook?
He’s cheerful but also very manly. He’s sensible in his own way. Every word he says is witty and cool. I think it also shows when he’s acting.
How did your fellow members from the KBS2 show “Two Days and One Night” react to “The King”?
They told me I did well and congratulated me in our group chat. The guys are big pranksters on TV, but in real life, they’re encouraging and very helpful. They’re great.
What are your thoughts on dating?
I of course want to date. I’m a young man after all. People around me tell me, “I guess you’re just not desperate enough.” I wish I could meet someone that inspires me when it comes to my work - someone who I can encourage and vice versa, and one who works on self-development. That’s the kind of person I hope to meet, but I think I’m still more focused on work.
You’re leaving for the jungle soon, right?
I think I’ll be very satisfied with myself after coming back from the jungle. I’m worried because a lot of the people that appeared on the show were either in great shape or dexterous. I really can’t do much of anything. I have the will, but not the skills to back it up, so my goal is to not be a burden to anyone. I asked Jung Joon-young for advice, and he told me, “You get tired and hungry, and there’s a lot of bugs.” I don’t think it will be easy but I hope I can give a good impression by doing my best in everything.

윤시윤 ”연기 첫 도전 데프콘, 너무 잘해 모태솔로 의심”
배우 윤시윤(31)이 TV조선 주말극 '대군-사랑을 그리다'(이하 '대군')를 통해 또 하나의 대표작을 만들었다. 시청률 5% 달성으로 프리허그 공약을 수행한 것에 이어 다낭으로의 포상휴가 기회를 잡았다. 누구보다 행복한 날을 보내고 있는 상황.
윤시윤은 '대군'에서 은성대군 이휘 역을 소화했다. 형 주상욱(이강)으로부터 왕좌와 사랑하는 여인 진세연(성자현)을 지켜내는 인물로 열연을 펼쳤다. 시청률은 TV조선 역대 최고인 5.6%(닐슨 코리아, 전국 유료플랫폼 기준)를 기록하며 유종의 미를 거뒀다.
차기작도 일찌감치 정했다. SBS 새 수목극 '친애하는 판사님께'로 1인 2역에 도전한다. 곧 정글로 떠난다. '정글의 법칙' 촬영을 위해서다. "쉼 없이 일해도 지치지 않는다"고 밝힌 윤시윤은 "열심히 달리겠다"고 의지를 다졌다.
-쉼이 없다.
"예전에 정말 쉬고 싶어서 강하게 쉬겠다고 했는데 할 게 없더라. 진짜 못 노는 사람인 것 같다. 차기작 준비하면서 힐링하면 된다. 이게 쉼인 것 같다. 쉬더라도 생산적 활동을 하는 걸 좋아한다. 소소하게 취미로라도 작품 할 때가 좋다. 능력만 된다면 작품을 계속하고 싶다. 다만 욕심 때문에 무리하는 건 원치 않는다."
-이휘와 성격이 비슷한가.
"휘는 바르고 정직한 청년이다. 내가 살아가고 싶은 이상향이다. 난 착하고 좋은 사람은 아닌데 선한 사람이 옳은 사람이란 생각을 하고 있다. 양보하고 손해 보는 삶, 이해해주고 낮아지고 겸손해지는 삶을 꿈꾼다. 벼가 익을수록 고개를 숙이는 게 멋있는 삶이라고 생각한다."
-호흡을 맞춘 진세연은 어떤 파트너였나.
"상당히 선하고 가슴 따뜻한 친구다. 진짜 추웠던 때인데 보조 출연자들과 대화를 나누고 있더라. '옥중화' 때 출연진이 있어 얘기하고 있었었다. '인간적으로 소탈하구나!' 싶었는데 보조 출연자들에게 자기 핫팩을 나눠주고 있더라. 끝까지 배려하는 모습이 보기 좋았다. 진짜 좋은 배우와 일하고 있다는 생각이 들었다. 그럴 정도로 자랑스러웠다."
-주상욱은 어땠나.
"유쾌한데 굉장히 남자답다. 과하지 않다. 특유의 센스가 있다. 말 한마디가 위트 있고 멋있다. 남자답고 거친 느낌 속 얘기하는 건 장난스럽고 애교가 많다. 그런 게 연기에 나오는 것 같다. 임팩트 있게 연기하는데도 과하지 않더라. 그게 주상욱이란 배우의 빛깔인 것 같다."
-KBS 2TV '1박 2일' 멤버들 반응은.
"단체 메시지방에서 수고했다고 하고 축하한다고 해줬다. '동구가 잠을 못 자고 와서 힘이 없었는데 충분히 쉬고 오겠다'라면서 게임에서 질 걱정을 하고 있더라. 종민이 형이나 준호 형이 자고 있을 때 장난을 많이 치는데 난 드라마해야 한다고 배려해주더라. TV에서 짓궂게 하는 형들이지만 진짜로는 배우로서 인정해주고 많이 도와준다. 진짜 좋은 형들이다."
-연애를 하고 싶은 마음은 없나.
"나 역시 하고 싶다. 사지육신 멀쩡한 청년이다. 주변에선 '네가 아직 급하지 않나 보다'라고 한다. 일을 하는 데 있어서 영감을 줄 수 있는 사람이었으면 좋겠다. 서로 응원해주고 자기계발을 하는 응원자. 그런 사람과 만나고 싶은데 아직은 일이 좀 더 고픈 것 같다."
-싱글을 발표했다.
"날 좋아해주는 팬들에게 다양한 모습을 보여주고 싶었다. 싱글 발표도 그렇고 '정글의 법칙' 출연도 그렇고 다양한 모습을 보여드리는 정도지 다른 목적은 없다."
-곧 정글로 떠난다.
"정글에 갔다 오면 엄청 뿌듯할 것 같다. 워낙 '정글의 법칙'에 몸 좋은 분들이나 뭐든 잘하는 분들이 나와 걱정이다. 난 정말 아무것도 못한다. 하려는 의지는 있으나 못하는 게 많아 민폐가 안 되는 게 목표다. (정)준영이에게 조언을 구했는데 '힘들다, 배고프다, 벌레가 많다'고 얘기해줬다. 쉽지 않을 것 같긴 하지만 뭐든 열심히 해서 좋은 모습을 보여드리고자 한다."
-도전해보고 싶은 장르나 캐릭터는.
"밝은 걸 해보고 싶다. 내 안에 있는 감성적이고 딥한 게 있는 반면 '1박 2일'에서 아이 같은 면모도 나온다. 나이값 못하는 아이 같은 모습들이 나온다. 그런 모습을 드라마에서 보여주고 싶다. 내가 가지고 있는 양면적인 모습들을 잘 보여주다 보면 제3의 모습이 또 나오지 않을까 싶다."
