Rangers’ Choo Shin-soo extends on-base streak to 31

Texas Rangers’ Korean designated hitter Choo Shin-soo has extended his on-base streak to 31 games, four shy of his career high.

Choo kept the streak alive with a single against the Colorado Rockies at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas, on Sunday, as the Rangers won the game 13-12.

Choo went 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Choo reached base in 35 consecutive games during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The current streak is the longest active run in the majors and Choo’s longest within one season.

Choo entered Sunday’s game batting .347 with three homers, six RBIs and 13 walks in 13 games in June, with an on-base percentage of .484.

After the Rangers were unable to cash in on the mini-rally, the Rockies scored twice in the top of the ninth to build a 12-9 lead. But the Rangers weren’t done, as Colorado closer Wade Davis had a meltdown in the bottom of the ninth. With one out in the inning, the Rangers drew two bases-loaded walks to make it 12-11. And Jose Trevino knocked in two runs with a single to shallow left to complete an improbable rally.

Eric Hacker to return to KBO, likely to sign with Heroes

Eric Hacker is returning to the KBO, as he is likely to sign with the Nexen Heroes to replace Esmil Rogers.

Rogers, who was the Heroes’ No.1 starter in the rotation, had to leave the KBO due to a broken finger on his right hand during a game against the LG Twins on June 3. Once Rogers left, Heroes’ general manager Ko Hyung-wook headed to the United States to look for a pitcher.

Hacker played for the NC Dinos since 2013 and he picked up 56 wins over five seasons. Hacker topped the league with 19 wins during the 2015 season and won the Golden Glove Award, becoming the fourth foreign player to win the award.

In 2017, Hacker finished the season with a 3.52 ERA, picking up 12 wins and seven losses. Despite a satisfactory season, the Dinos decided not to re-sign Hacker. As Hacker wasn’t able to sign with other clubs, he left the KBO.

Even after Hacker returned to the United States, he continued to show interest in returning to the KBO by posting videos of him training on social media.
