Kim Tae-woo must pay for gaining weight

Singer Kim Tae-woo’s agency Soulshop Entertainment will have to pay 65 million won ($58,470) for gaining weight, according to a ruling by the Seoul Central District Court on Wednesday.

Kim was under an exclusive contract to be the model of a company specializing in creating and selling programs that help clients control their weight. Kim participated in the program in April 2016 and did achieve his target weight of 85 kilograms (187 pounds). However, in May 2016, due to scheduling issues, Kim could no longer participate in the program. He gained weight afterward, which was widely reported in the press. Clients of the company who saw Kim’s weight gain supposedly requested their deposits while demanding a refund.

The weight loss company filed a report demanding Kim return the money he made from his contract.

“Kim did not fulfill his responsibility to maintain his weight, and the court recognizes that the plaintiff’s financial loss is because of Kim, which is why Kim has to return half of the original payment he received, which is 65 million won,” said Senior Judge Lee Mi-sun.
