South Korea sets record at shooting championships

The 52nd International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship concluded in the southeastern city of Changwon on Friday, with host South Korea having set a medals record.

The closing ceremony was held at Changwon International Shooting Centre in Changwon, South Gyeongsang. South Korea finished in second place overall with 11 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals.

The competition, which opened on Aug. 31, also featured North Korea, which sent 22 shooters and officials and left with two silver and two bronze medals. The North Korean delegation left Changwon on Wednesday.

Huh Sung-moo, mayor of Changwon, said the presence of North Korean athletes was “a symbol of peace and hope that eased the pain of division of the Korean Peninsula.”
