9) Recent scenes depicting Pyongyang’s nightscape shows the electricity problem is improving.
10) Large and medium-sized power plants have also been built since Kim Jong-un became the chairman of North Korea.
11) Some examples are Paektu Hero Youth Power Plants 1 and 2 and the Anbyon Youth Power Station.
12) Thanks to support from China, North Korea has replaced facilities that uses heavy oil with ones using coal, helping update their electricity supply.
13) Installing solar panels on homes has also made electricity more widely available.
14) But North Korea’s efforts to overcome electricity shortages are hampered by aging facilities and sanctions, meaning the country still has a lot of work to do in updating their electricity grid.
