YONGIN, Gyeonggi - Museum Ground intends to be a breakthrough venue for local artists who have difficulty finding a place to show their works, its founder, renowned artist Chun Kwang Young, said.

“Even now, personal connections based on school ties or regionalism are important in the Korean art world,” Chun, 74, said during an opening ceremony for the museum on Saturday. “I will help artists who suffer from a lack of such connections.”

Chun, who has a solo show opening at the Brooklyn Museum in New York next month, is now a celebrated artist, but he went through trying times of obscurity before he gained international fame in the late 1990s.

Museum Ground consists of a museum building with three galleries, a cafe and an art shop, gardens (including a sculpture garden) and a building used as a studio by Chun.
