Samsung Electronics employees volunteered at the Salakpra Wildlife Sanctuary in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, on Oct. 4 and 5 to help improve the housing for the animals and protect local water resources.

Founded in 1965, the Salakpra Wildlife Sanctuary was the first wildlife sanctuary in Thailand. It covers an area of about 860 square kilometers (332 square miles) and contains over 150 wild elephants and hundreds of species that are under threat of extinction.

Samsung Electronics has been carrying out various social contribution activities in Thailand, including offering educational services for children for the last three years. This year, employees of a Thai affiliate voted to support the Salakpra Wildlife Sanctuary and opted to volunteer there.

More than 60 employees of Samsung Electronics helped to construct a small dam in preparation for the dry season when water shortages are a serious problem. They also installed a salt lick, a place where wild animals can go to lick salt and other minerals that are lacking in the local area. They delivered a variety of supplies, including tents and shoes, to the employees who work at the Salakpra Reserve.

“We are deeply grateful for the help of Samsung Electronics employees who respect nature and wildlife,” said the director of forest protection at the Salakpra Wildlife Sanctuary. “I hope that it will have a positive impact on environmental protection awareness.”

Samsung’s employees were also happy with the work that they did.

“It means a lot to me that I was involved in the campaign to contribute to the Thai community as a Samsung Electronics employee” said one of the employees who participated in the volunteer work. “While doing volunteer work in the field, I felt proud of my company.”
