Microdot apologizes for parents

Rapper Microdot came forward on Wednesday to apologize for the fraud allegedly committed by his parents 21 years ago.

“I apologize to all those who were hurt by the issues involving my parents,” he said through an official statement. “I was only five years old when my parents immigrated to New Zealand. I wasn’t aware of the issues until I talked with my parents regarding the [recent] news.”

He also promised to take responsibility by meeting with all those who have been hurt by his parents and handle the issue with them personally.

The apology came after the rapper denied allegations made through an anonymous post in an online community on Monday claiming that the singer’s parents fled to New Zealand after scamming several acquaintances while they were living in Jecheon, North Chungcheong.

The rapper said Monday that the rumors were false and that he would take legal action against those spreading them.

However, several people claiming that they were victims of the parents came forward the next day, telling entertainment news outlet SBS FunE that Microdot’s parents had borrowed several hundred million won from 10 people in 1997 and fled abroad without paying them back.

Local police plan to reinvestigate the case and will ask for Interpol’s cooperation if necessary.
