Actors Song Hye-kyo, 36, and Park Bo-gum, 25, are making their return to the small screen in the upcoming tvN series “Encounter.”

Scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, the drama is the first TV project for both actors in two years. Song’s last drama was “Descendants of the Sun,” in which she co-starred with her now-husband Song Joong-ki. Park’s most recent drama was “Moonlight Drawn by Clouds.”

“Encounter” revolves around Su-hyeon (Song), the daughter of an ambitious politician, who has lived a life pre-planned by her parents. After divorcing the son of a chaebol family, Su-hyeon receives a collapsing hotel as alimony. She successfully develops the hotel into one of the most prestigious in the country.

Having lived a suffocating life, she falls for a much younger man named Jin-hyuk (Park) when the two meet during a trip in Cuba. Though Jin-hyuk does not have many qualities to show off compared to the other men Su-hyeon has dated, he is a warm person who is able to melt Su-hyeon’s frozen heart.

“The drama depicts a blossoming relationship and the courage of the two [to develop the relationship],” said director Park Shin-woo at a press event held Wednesday in southern Seoul. “Many dramas these days develop very fast. But the development of [‘Encounter’] is relatively slow, so I believe it will be able to attract audiences searching for a story that does not heavy-handedly stimulate emotions.”

Following the announcement that Song and Park had been cast as lovers, many were focused on the two actors’ age difference. The public concern, however, did not worry Song.

“The drama strictly sets my character as an older woman,” said Song. “So I did not feel that much pressure from the age difference.”

Part of the drama was shot in Cuba, a country where the past and the present co-exist, according to Park. “Since Cuba is a refreshing and a foreign country, I believe people will feel like they are watching a movie when viewing our drama.”

The series was written by Yoo Yeong-ah, who wrote the 2013 movie “Miracle in Cell No.7.”
