LG U+ partners with JYP to add auditions to K-pop app

LG U+ said on Tuesday that it is partnering with JYP Entertainment, one of the big name entertainment agencies in Korea, to promote its newly launched K-pop app dubbed “U+ Idol Live.”

K-pop star aspirants hoping to be trained by JYP Entertainment - which created famous girl group Twice - can submit applications for an audition run by the agency through the U+ app starting this month.

The carrier originally launched the app in October to pull in K-pop fans by offering boy and girl group-related video content. The company hopes the marketing effort with JYP will add traction to the app’s popularity.

While applications for the auditions are already open on the app, actual offline auditions will start from January in five locations: Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon and Seoul. Those that pass the initial screening process will be announced through the app on Jan. 28.
