Standard Chartered’s travel-oriented Plus Mile Card offers attractive mileage rates. [STANDARD CHARTERED BANK]

As interest in travel has increased recently, the various industries related to travel have evolved, and the card industry is no exception. Standard Chartered Bank’s Plus Mile card, launched at the end of March, is a new travel-oriented card.

Strong mileage accrual is its strongest point. Users earn a maximum of three miles for Korean Air and maximum of 3.5 miles for Asiana Airlines per 1,000 won ($0.89) spent. Of course, there are conditions, but the rate of 3.5 miles per 1,000 won was enough to cause a sensation in the mileage card market. Standard Chartered’s Plus Mile Card has proved popular with travelers in the six months since it launched.

The new card offers attractive mileage rates, with Korean Air offering up to three miles for every 1,000 won spent and Asiana Airlines giving a maximum of 3.5 miles per 1,000 won.

The Korean Air version is available using either the Visa or Union Pay payment system. Miles are accumulated at different speeds depending on how much users spend per month. Users who spend under 500,000 won a month will get one mile for every 1,000 won, while users spending over 500,000 won but under 2 million won will get two miles for every 1,000 won spent. Those spending more than 2 million won a month will get three miles for every 1,000 won they spend.

The Asiana card is available as either a MasterCard or Union Pay card. Users spending under 500,000 won a month will get 1.3 miles for every 1,000 won, while users spending over 500,000 won but under 2 million won will get 2.5 miles for every 1,000 won spent. Users spending more than 2 million won a month will get 3.5 miles for every 1,000 won they spend.

In addition, it is also possible to get a 70 percent discount on fees when exchanging foreign currencies, including the U.S. dollar, Japanese yen, the euro and Chinese yuan. The card also allows users access to airport lounges at Incheon International Airport, Gimpo International Airport and Gimhae International Airport for free up to three times a year. This must-have feature for regular travelers is also available at 850 airport lounges around the world via the Lounge-Key service.

A coupon for Starbucks coffee will be given to new cardholders who spend 30,000 won with their Plus Mile Card by the end of December.
