In the United States, the new year is an exciting holiday season to spend time with family and friends. If you ask Americans about ⓐholiday tradition, they ⓑwould usually mention New Year’s Eve. Most Americans ⓒwould be at parties on ⓓDecember 31, waiting for ⓔchampagne toast at midnight. They would either be in ⓕthe Time Squares in New York for ⓖNew Year’s countdown and celebration or watch it on television.

would usually mention → usually mention would는 과거의 의지나 현재의 소망에 쓰임, 현실은 조동사 없이 현재 시제로

would → will 가정이 아닌 경향은 would가 아닌 will

December 31 → Dec. 31

champagne → a champagne toast 건배는 한 차례의 행위, a 필요

ⓕ the Time Squares → Times Squares 명칭에 원래 the가 없음

New Year’s countdown and celebration → the New Year’s countdown and celebration 관념이 아닌 구체적 행사, 정관사 the 필요

I, too, began to ⓐhave anticipation for this quiet and beautiful New Year’s tradition. The New Year’s Eve parties in the United States focus on the past. People seem to squeeze out the last remaining joy of the year on the last day. Because of these parties, many sleep in on January 1. Korea’s sunrise on the New Year is just the opposite. Koreans ⓑlook forward to the future with hopes. Koreans welcome the new year with courage and ⓒhopes, with blushing ⓓface and wide open eyes like the rising sun.

have anticipation for → anticipate 간결하게

look forward to the future with hopes → look forward to the future look forward to에 with hope가 내포됨
