Ballad singers sign new contracts

A number of big name singers are looking to take their next step by finding homes with new agencies, as news came Thursday that singers Kang Chang-mo and Kim Sung-tae both signed contracts with new entertainment companies.

Kang, better known by his stage name KCM, is joining entertainment agency Urban Works, which is home to artists Kriesha Chu and Kim Min-ju from girl group IZ*ONE.

The agency announced KCM recently signed an exclusive contract with the them and that it would provide him with support.

KCM started off his career with a song on the soundtrack of the SBS drama “Punch” in 2003. He made his official debut in 2004 with the album “Beautiful Mind” and gained fame with his songs “Black and White Photo” (2004), “Classic” (2008) and “Hedgehog Love” (2016).

Ballad duo Postmen member Kim Sung-tae recently signed an exclusive contract with entertainment agency Estimate, LCC, also the home of singer Yukika, the agency announced Thursday.

The duo, however, is not disbanding. The duo’s other member Shin Ji-hoo told local news outlet Joynews24 in a recent interview that the two will be pursuing solo careers for the moment, but will not be disbanding.

Kim was originally a member of the group M To M, which formed in 2004. He left the group in 2009 to form Postmen with Shin in 2010. They have released several hits, including “I Can’t Go to Sinchon” (2013) and “Drink is Better than You” (2014).
