The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Tuesday announced that it has approved business licenses for three additional low-budget carriers - Aero K Airlines, Air Premia and Fly Gangwon. The three airliners were picked from five candidates. The other two failed to meet the cut as one had a chief executive currently embroiled in a legal battle while one failed to meet government requirements in its business plans. Aero K Airlines, which will be based in Cheongju International Airport in North Chungcheong, will be offering 11 routes to China, Japan and Vietnam with six A320 airplanes by 2022 while Air Premia based at Incheon International Airport will fly seven B787-900 on nine routes including to the United States and Canada as well as short-distance flights like Vietnam. Fly Gangwon, which will be operating from Yangyang International Airport in Gangwon, plans on offering 25 routes including to China, Japan and the Philippines by 2022 with nine B737-800. The licensing of the three additional budget airlines will contribute to creating 2,000 new jobs by 2022 starting with 400 this year, said the Transport Ministry. [YONHAP]
