This is today's anchor briefing.

If we think about it, chicken has been a part of every moment in our lives. Children waited for the rotisserie chickens that their father would buy on his way home, and ‘he,’ a big player in the dining industry, started out as a chicken delivery courier.

“The real winners during the World Cup are fried chicken restaurants.”
“Chicken was delivered right after the football match was over.”
“Reservation needed for watching the football game on TV at a fried chicken pub.”

Chicken was our best friend during those days in 2002.

Sadly, the food that was placed on the table for ferry Sewol victims at Paegmok port was children’s favorite food, fried chicken. Fried chicken was also what “they” ate during their binge party to mock the children’s parents… Korea, the country of chicken, laughs and sometimes cries with chicken.

Detectives, who started their undercover investigation, also chose a fried chicken restaurant as their base. These detectives’ lives never had things go their way, until their situation comically unfolded after a sudden overflow of customers. Their undercover mission could not close its doors because of the unwanted flow of customers.

Then, what is a fried chicken restaurant to these people?

“Are you saying that we need permission from our employees when we close our kindergarten like closing a fried chicken restaurant?”
“(Our business is) 100 percent private property, like a fried chicken restaurant.” -Jeon Seong-ha, a policy maker at the Korea Kindergarten Association

A real-life comedy unfolded because they compared themselves to fried chicken restaurant owners, which suddenly turned parents into employees and the children into chicken. Moreover, they frequently called themselves ‘educators’ despite the fact that they receive a government subsidy of 2 trillion won ($1.7 billion) – but, when they stand in front of the government and parents, they call themselves ‘a self-employed business,’ that can close their preschools whenever they want.

However, fried chicken restaurants are not businesses that can be opened and closed at one’s will. They are the last bastion of Korean small businesses. People have to fry each chicken with all their heart and compete against neighboring restaurants just ten steps away... For some, it is cheap and easy chicken, but for others, it is a different name for “struggling to survive…”

Although they say that they will open their doors again, they have belittled their business by calling it a fried chicken restaurant. I want to share a line from the movie ‘Extreme Job’ for these people.

“You don’t know small business owners… We risk our lives doing business!”
