Pitcher Lim Chang-yong announces retirement

Sidearm pitcher Lim Chang-yong, formerly of the Kia Tigers, announced his retirement from professional baseball on Monday.

“Since I decided to retire at the last minute, I’m going to think about my post career plan,” Lim said through his agent.

After being released by the Tigers following the 2018 season, Lim continued training in the hopes of continuing his career. Although he will no longer be on the mound, Lim says he plans to remain active in the baseball community.

After graduating from Gwangju Jinheung High School in 1995, Lim made his KBO debut with the Haitai Tigers, now the Kia Tigers.

Lim played 18 seasons in the league and picked up 130 wins, 86 losses, 258 saves and 19 holds, with a 3.45 ERA in 760 games.

Following a successful run in the KBO, Lim moved on to play in Japan, signing with Nippon Professional Baseball’s Tokyo Yakult Swallows in late 2007. In five seasons with the Swallows, Lim picked up 128 saves and a 2.09 ERA. Lim briefly played in the MLB, signing with the Chicago Cubs in 2012.

He returned to the Tigers in 2014.

Last season, Lim played in 37 games, earning a 5.42 ERA.
