InterContinental Hotels Group

Saturday: Eight hotels affiliated with IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) operating in Korea announced that they will join the Earth Hour movement, a global movement encouraging people to turn off their lights. This year, Earth Hour will be on Saturday from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature, the Earth Hour movement has been held annually to raise awareness of climate change and energy saving, encouraging people to turn off lights and not use electricity for an hour, since 2007.

In addition, IHG-affiliated hotels have decided to share photos of their participation using the hashtag #IHGEarthHour on social media to raise awareness.

The IHG is also planning to organize the IHG Earth Week from April 21 to 28 to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, while promoting and sharing its sustainable practices and actionable programs for environmental protection.

Meanwhile, IHG is mandating carbon reduction practices through its internal Green Engage program at all of its hotels around the world in order to fulfill its social responsibility. By implementing the innovative online system designed to keep track of carbon emissions caused by energy and water consumption as well as waste disposal on a monthly basis, the group not only raises awareness and understanding of its environmental impact but also presents more than 200 green solutions for carbon reduction.
