Gov’t recalls 62,000 vehicles due to safety issues, defects

The Transport Ministry said Thursday it has recalled over 62,000 vehicles from local and imported brands due to safety violations and defects.

The recalls include 54,161 Hyundai Motor Grand Starex vans that were found to have electronic control units (ECU) that limited the vehicle’s speed to 110.4 kilometers per hour (68.6 miles per hour), higher than the country’s 110 kilometers per hour limit for vans.

Hyundai Motor will make corrective changes by updating the ECU from April 12, according to the ministry. The automaker will also face a fine.

The ministry also recalled 4,596 Mercedes-Benz Korea vehicles such as the A200 sedan, which had rear fog light reflectors that exceeded the brightness limit.
