‘Endgame’ presales set new records

The number of presale tickets sold for “Avengers: Endgame” continues to rise each day as over two million people have reserved their tickets to see the final Marvel film, based on statistics released by the Korean Film Council Tuesday afternoon.

The movie’s presales take up 97 percent of the local box office, setting a record that has never been seen in the history of Korean cinema.

The IMAX theater located at CGV’s flagship Yongsan I-Park mall location in central Seoul has proven to be one of the most sought-after theaters in the country. The theater’s 624 seats are completely sold out on April 24 from the 7:30 a.m. screening to the 2:15 a.m. screening on April 25.

Other theaters tally similar results. Fans scrambled for tickets on the release date, leaving very few seats vacant.

Because of the film’s run time of three hours, many theaters are offering screenings for the first 24 hours of the film’s release. Lotte Cinema’s Konkuk University Entrance Branch’s final screening of the day is from 3:10 a.m. to 6:21 a.m.

The film has set a record for the number of screens it is being shown at as well - it will debut at an estimated 2,800 screens. “Avengers: Infinity War”(2018) began with 2,460 screens and extended as far as 2,553 on its fourth day.

The 22nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will showcase the final battle between the surviving Avengers and ultimate villain Thanos.
