굳이 다 읽어드리지는 않겠습니다만 아무튼 이런 글이 올라왔었습니다. 난데없이 등장한 그 국민청원 글은 얼핏 장난같이 보였지만 만드는 입장에서야 장난으로만 받아들일 수는 없었죠.

I won’t read everything for you, but someone posted this on the Blue House’s petition board. The petition, which was posted out of the blue, seemed like a prank, but as the creator of the subject in question, it couldn’t be passed on as a mere prank.

사실 비하인드 뉴스는 뉴스룸의 마지막 순서이다 보니까 종종 시간에 쫓겨 아이템을 줄여야 했는데… 그것이 서운했던 시청자 2200여 분이 청와대 국민청원 게시판에 아쉬운 마음을 전한 것입니다. 솔직히 웃음도 좀 나왔습니다만 결코 무시할 수 없는 시청자의 요구… 아시겠지만… 이후부터는 저도 눈치를 보게 되어서 되도록 세 개를 다 하려고 노력 중입니다.

To tell you the truth, occasionally, we had to cut items from the Behind the News segment that comes last in the Newsroom report because of a lack of time… The post reflected the feelings of some 2,200 viewers who were sorry [to see the segment shortened]. Honestly, it made me laugh, but the demands of the viewers cannot be ignored… As you all know… After the demands, I have become self-conscious of the issue and try to do all three items.

물론 어떤 제안이나 모두 가능하기 때문에 마음에 들지 않는 연예인을 퇴출시켜달라는 주장부터 중고물품을 팔아달라는 요청까지… 국민청원이 마치 놀이터가 되어버렸다는 비판이 나오는 것도 사실이긴 합니다.

Of course, any kind of suggestion is possible, from banning celebrities from [the media] to selling used items… It seems the criticism of the petition board is true, which says the board has become a playground.

그러나 역기능보다는 순기능이 더 크다는 믿음은 모두가 작게든 크게든 갖고 있는 것이 아닐까. 더구나 올라온 글들을 들여다보면 시민들의 다양한 생각을 짐작할 수 있고 궁극적으로는 입법마저 이끌어낸 적도 있습니다. 그러니까 국민청원 게시판은 시대의 흐름과 시민의 요구를 짐작할 수 있는 최소한의 창구의 역할을 하고 있는 셈입니다.

However, the faith that the board has more positive effects than adverse ones seems to be inside everyone. Besides, when one looks at the petitions people post on the board, one can assume various people’s thoughts, and there was even a time when this led to the legislation of a law. Thus, the petition board acts at the very least as a window to follow the trends of an era and guess the demands of the people.

요 며칠, 그리고 오늘… 인터넷 포털 검색어 1위를 차지한 단어는 다름 아닌 그 '국민청원'이었습니다. 그것은 실제로 국민청원에 의견을 올린 사람이 그만큼 많다는 의미인 동시에 그 소식에 관심을 가진 사람 또한 많았다는 의미이겠죠.

Over the past few days, and then today… The most searched word online was none other than ‘National Petition.’ This means that there were many people who posted their opinions to the petition board and also, that many people were paying attention to the issue.

그리고 며칠째 청와대 국민청원게시판을 도배하고 있으며 시민들이 어떻게든 답변을 듣고자 하는 그 주제는… 바로 이것이었습니다.

And, a subject demanded by the people for an answer, which also covered the Blue House’s petition board these few days… was this.

As the petitions were posted on different days, it is hard to directly compare the two cases… However, this reflects the situation of Korea that was affected by its politics.
