Cho Sang-woo’s 0.00 ERA streak finally comes to end

Kiwoom Heroes’ closer Cho Sang-woo’s 0.00 ERA streak ended on Tuesday during a game against the LG Twins.

While the Heroes were leading 10-9, Cho got on the mound at the top of the eighth with two outs. Cho completed the inning by striking out the Twins’ Yoo Kang-nam.

Things started to go wrong in the ninth inning. In two-thirds of an inning, Cho gave up three runs for his first blown save of the season and for a shocking 40.50 ERA for the game.

With three runs, the Twins had an impressive 12-10 come-from-behind victory.

For Cho, a blown save has pushed his ERA up, from 0.00, to 1.67, as of 6 p.m. Wednesday. This season, Cho is the league’s dominant closer with 13 saves. Before Tuesday’s game, he had kept his ERA at 0.00 for 14 straight games. Following Cho, Ham Deok-ju of the Doosan Bears is second at 11.

Cho has also topped the league in pitch speed at 157.2 kilometers per hour (98 miles per hour) against Jamie Romak of the SK Wyverns on May 2.
