Kim Min-jeong named as new Taeguk Ladies keeper

The Korean women’s national football team on Wednesday named a new goalkeeper in place of an injured veteran ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The KFA said Kim Min-jeong joined the ongoing training camp at the National Football Center (NFC) in Paju, Gyeonggi, later Wednesday. Head coach Yoon Duk-yeo and his team is preparing for the June 7 to July 7 Women’s World Cup in France.

Yoon initially named four goalkeepers to his camp roster - including the 34-year-old Kim Jeong-mi - last Tuesday. Yet Kim was cut three days later after suffering a torn Achilles’ tendon. Another keeper at camp, Kang Ga-e, is rehabbing a quadricep injury.

The KFA sought FIFA’s permission to call up a new goalkeeper who wasn’t already on the provisional roster, and once it got the green light Tuesday night, it moved quickly to bring Kim Min-jeong into the mix.

The 22-year-old has two international caps.
