Galaxy Note10 may hit shelves in August

Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Note10 will likely hit the market in August.

Samsung’s phablet - the successor to the Note9 released in August last year - is expected to be unveiled in two months, according to reports from foreign press, including tech reviewer CNET, on Friday.

The Galaxy Note10 is expected to arrive after the electronics giant’s ambitious Galaxy Fold, although the latter phone’s release date is still unknown.

Samsung has not confirmed the exact date for the release of the Note10 either, but has confirmed that an August release is likely.

“We haven’t decided on the release of the new product yet,” said a spokesperson for Samsung. “But we believe the Galaxy Note10 will be unveiled in August, considering that previous models were usually introduced in that month.”

With the Note10, Samsung will add another 5G smartphone to its arsenal, joining the Galaxy S10 5G, released in April, and the upcoming Galaxy Fold, which industry insiders speculate will hit the market by the end of July. Samsung will also likely unveil a 4G version of the Note10.

The Galaxy Fold is one of the most highly-anticipated smartphones ever released, but its price, which is expected to be around a whopping $2,000, makes the Note10 a more wallet-friendly option for customers looking for a new Samsung device.

In terms of looks, Samsung is expected to retain the punch-hole design for the Galaxy Note10 that it used in the Galaxy S10 series, according to a report from 91mobiles, an Indian gadget website focused on smartphones. But the hole for the selfie camera is likely to be positioned in the middle of the display, rather than the top-right corner like other Samsung phones.

The triple camera module on the back of the phone is expected to be positioned in the top-right corner of the phone.

The model is expected to have a 6.3-inch screen - the same size as the Note8, but a smidge smaller than the 6.4-inch Note9. Reports from OnLeaks, a popular tech rumor website, suggest the Note10 Pro will have a 6.75-inch display panel and will sport a Time of Flight sensor on its backside.

Time of Flight is a three-dimensional image technology that improves the depth sensing and helps with portrait photography.

Other rumors suggest that Samsung has ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack for the Note10, joining rivals like Apple and Google. The device is expected to be powered by a 4,500 milliampere battery and 45 watt fast charging.
