Lee Jeong-eun misses out on second consecutive win

June 11,2019
Lee Jeong-eun narrowly missed out on a chance to make history on Sunday, coming up just short of winning for a second consecutive week.

Following her first LPGA Tour victory at the U.S. Women’s Open last weekend, Lee was hoping to continue her success by winning the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented By Acer at Galloway, New Jersey, on Sunday. Lee was en route to do so as she started the final round as the overnight leader.

Instead, she had to walk away as the runner-up, finishing one shot behind Lexi Thompson of the United States.

Starting the final round with a one-shot lead, Lee struggled as she only managed to shoot one under par, 70, to finish a three-day tournament at 11 under par.

Lee kept her chances alive until the par-4 12th hole, but three straight bogeys, from the par-4 13th to the par-3 15th, ended her shot at back-to-back victories. Lee tried to make a comeback by making two birdies on the last three holes, but Thompson finished her round with an eagle on the par-5 18th to take an impressive come-from-behind victory.

“Winning the U.S. Open, I mean, it’s one of the biggest tournaments to win, and so yeah, I’m pretty satisfied with it,” Lee was quoted as saying on the LPGA website. “I mean, all my shots are pretty good, my short game is pretty good and consistent.”

The 2019 LPGA Tour season will continue this week as the golfers head to Michigan to compete at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give starting from Thursday to June 16.
