Hyundai Mobis hydrogen charging is free in Chungju

June 21,2019
Hyundai Mobis partnered with Chungju, North Chungcheong, with an aim to make the city a “hydrogen hub.”

The car parts maker announced Thursday that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Chungju’s regional government to operate a hydrogen charging station free of charge to customers by the end of this year. The hydrogen station was set up in April, inside Hyundai’s factory.

Anyone who wants to use the station can do so by reserving it online. Opening hours are weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Hyundai explained the station can inject 5 kilograms (11 pounds) of hydrogen in three minutes, allowing the driver to save up to 50,000 won ($43). Hyundai explained the purpose was to foster interest in hydrogen cars in the area.

Hyundai will also conduct a campaign among elementary students to offer engineering classes to explain the science behind hydrogen cars. The company’s factory in the city can produce fuel battery modules for up to 3,000 hydrogen cars a year and is undergoing expansion to double this capacity to 6,000 cars by the end of this year.
