Lee Min-ho named ambassador

Actor Lee Min-ho has been nominated as the honorary ambassador for the King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF), the organization announced on Tuesday.

The appointing ceremony will be held during the “2019 World Korean Educators Conference” on next Tuesday. Lee, as the new ambassador, will participate in creating educational contents for international audiences who want to learn about Korean language and culture.

“We selected Lee due to his global influence among the ever-growing passion for Hallyu [the Korean wave] in the world,” said organizers at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, who co-hosted the conference. “I hope more people will recognize the activities of KSIF through him.”

KSIF started with 13 branches in three countries in 2007, and has expanded to 180 branches in 60 countries. Over 60,000 people participate annually in programs put on by the organization.

Lee rose as a star through numerous popular drama series, such as “The Legend of the Blue Sea” (2016), “The Heirs” (2013) and “City Hunter” (2011) in SBS. He first rose to stardom by featuring in KBS drama series “Boys Over Flowers” (2009).
