[앵커브리핑] '하나 둘 셋 스윙!' ("One Two Three Swing!")

넘어가고. 다시 넘어오고 그리고 다시 넘어가고. 똑같은 장면이 똑같은 장소에서 다시 이뤄지는 순간을 바라보면서 저 적당한 높이와 너비의 경계선은 이제는 되레 넘기 위해서 존재하는 것은 아닐까… 하는 부질없는 생각까지 하게 됐던 어제였습니다.

그런 생각이란 것도 사실 1년이 조금 넘는 짧은 시간 동안에 그 경계선을 둘러싼 변화가 가져다준 것이겠지요. 분단의 경계선을 넘어서는 모습은 그렇게 비현실적인 느낌을 주기도 했지만… 사실 각자의 머릿속은 매우 현실적인 복잡한 셈법으로 가득하다는 걸 모르는 바도 아닙니다.

Truthfully, these thoughts were likely created by the changes surrounding the border for little over the past year. The sight of the men crossing the border seemed so unrealistic… But I knew that the complicated calculations going through the men’s heads were very much real.

For some, it is something that decides the fate of next year’s election and for the people in North and South Korea, nuclear weapons and peace is in itself a question that decides their fate. That is why one person made an exception and broke formality, and another accepted that exception. And that was why another person followed one step behind. Looking at the three, it was a day that made me think of whether progress in history is coincidence or fate…

지난 5월. 남북한이 맞닿은 비무장지대 안에 있는 도라 전망대에 그네가 한 대 생겼다고 합니다.주황빛 기둥이 단단히 뿌리박은 이 그네는 조금 낯선 모양을 하고 있었지요. 서로 다른 이들이 호흡을 맞춰가며 타야 하는 3인용 그네였습니다. 누군가 한눈을 팔아서도 안 되고. 똑같이 발을 구르며 마음을 모아야만 그네는 중력을 거스르고 하늘로 올라갈 수 있다는데… 당연히 쉬울 리는 없습니다.

In May, a swing was said to have been installed at the Dora Observatory in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, near the demilitarized zone, which is in between North and South Korea. The swing that is deeply imbedded in the ground with its orange poles is shaped in an unfamiliar way. It is a three-person swing that requires synchronization. One cannot take their eyes off [their task] and the people riding must kick their feet at the same time and be on the same page in order to defy gravity and fly … This is of course, is not something that can be done easily.

그러나. 세 명이 눈과 마음을 모은 뒤 똑같이 발을 구르며 하늘로 올라가면… 비로소 시원하게 눈에 담기는 한반도 북쪽의 풍경… 비무장 지대… 북쪽 하늘을 향해 세워진 그 3인용 그네의 이름은… '하나 둘 셋 스윙!'이었습니다.

A month after the swing was installed, thanks to good fortune, three people were kicking their feet together. It has been a day with yet another idle thought of pondering over whether the swing’s installation was coincidental or fate.
