JTBC to air ‘DMZ’ doc in August

JTBC will air the network’s first special documentary series “DMZ” later this year, the company announced on Friday.

The first part of the two-part series is set to air sometime in August. The documentary will cover the untouched land around the demilitarized zone (DMZ) in 4K ultra-high definition (UHD) quality. The series’ producers chose the topic of the DMZ because this year represents a turning point between the two Koreas’ diplomatic relationship.

The zone is often referred to as “Korea’s Serengeti” due to the preservation of nature along the line that extends across the peninsula. For the first time, JTBC will reveal how the zone is seen from North Korea and uncover the stories behind the forbidden area that has been kept silent over the last 66 years.

“The contemporary history of the Korean Peninsula can be seen through the DMZ,” said the producers of the documentary. “[Through the series] we plan to question the existence of the DMZ in an era when we stand between peace and tension.”
