The 22nd Boryeong Mud Festival will be held at Daecheon Beach on Korea’s western coast. Boryeong is famous for its abundant natural resources and beautiful scenery, and Daecheon is one of the largest and best swimming beaches in the country, drawing more than 10 million visitors annually. The festival offers a chance to bathe in a massive mud tub, receive mud massages, compete in the Mud King contest and participate in a mud photo competition. Tourists will also be able to buy various mud-based cosmetics products at discounted prices.

Playce Camp Jeju, Seogwipo, Jeju Island

Under the slogan, “Jeju, summer nights and the beer festival you’ve been dreaming of,” the boutique hotel Playce Camp Jeju is holding its third beer festival. The festival’s name jjan refers to the sound of two glasses hitting each other.
The three-day festival will be a perfect place for those who love music and beer.
Local breweries like Jeju Beer Company, Seoul Brewery and Magpie Brewing Co. will participate in and provide 50 different types of craft beer.
Food trucks will also get together at the festival and provide delicious treats while DJs play music throughout the weekend.
The festival’s tickets are priced at 19,900 won ($17) which includes vouchers for three glasses of craft beer and a coupon for five samplers.
The party starts at 5 p.m. and runs through midnight.

This two-day event is part of the annual 2019 Hangang Summer Festival, which has plenty of programs for those who want to beat the heat. A number of water fight programs are in store for families to enjoy. One of them is the Chulbal Hangang Team. Participants must complete five games, including rolling a ball with a water gun. Teams that complete the five games can win prizes.
Cultural programs for adults and children are also offered. At one corner of the festival venue, a playground will be set up for kids, while moms can enjoy a foot spa in icy cold water and get their nails done for an additional charge of 9,900 won.
Some hands-on activities are available, too, including making water guns with bamboo.
The water fight festival begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. Admission is 6,600 won and a bundled ticket is priced at 12,000 won. The bundled ticket includes a water gun, a helmet, a plastic bag for your belongings and access to a dressing room and shower facilities.
Children who under 36 months are eligible for free entry.

Inspired by the world-famous, La Tomatina tomato festival in Spain, Nonsan has launched an annual tomato festival of its own. This year’s festival is titled “Being Red.”
Some of the eye-catching programs include a tomato throwing contest, a cooking competition and making champagne with tomatoes.
There will be free concerts for K-pop fans every weekend during the festival period.

Summer Water Light Festival
Suncheon Bay National Garden, South Jeolla

The city of Suncheon, dubbed the country’s ecological capital, has kicked off its annual summer-themed event at its iconic Suncheon Bay National Garden.
This year’s Summer Water Light Festival features a water show, light gardens and a variety of food, music, games and entertainment programs for families to enjoy.
The southwestern city launched the Visit Suncheon Year campaign this year, aiming to attract 10 million tourists.
A water show will be held in the garden’s lake at 8, 8:30 and 9 p.m. each day, featuring exciting fountains and music.
From Aug. 2 to 4, a combination of DJ shows and a chicken and beer festival will be held, organizers said, noting family tourists will also be invited to enjoy a water gun competition, as well as a K-pop singing competition and dance event.
Three outdoor swimming pools will be available for children, while water and art gardens will also captivate visitors.
The festival opens at 6 p.m. and runs through 10 p.m. during the festival period.

Pocheon Idong Galbi Barbecue Festival

Every year, Pocheon, home to the beautiful Sanjeong Lake and other famous valleys, holds a festival dedicated to galbi, the all-time favorite dish for many Koreans and expats. Galbi refers to marinated beef ribs.
The main event of the barbecue festival is experiencing the taste of Pocheon. During the festival period, people are able to enjoy galbi at relatively low prices.
Visitors can also buy galbi to take home from the main venue of the festival.
One serving of Pocheon Idong Galbi is 500 grams (1 pound) and costs 20,000 won. An additional 12,000 won is charged for visitors who wish to grill the meat on the spot. The additional fee covers charcoal, grills, condiments, vegetables and other grilling tools.
Nearby sightseeing places include Baekun Valley and Pocheon Art Valley, a park which features outdoor sculptures and Cheonju Lake.
