The Holiday Land Festival canceled performances by Daniel Caesar and Anne-Marie “upon the artists’ management’s requests,” festival organizer Fake Virgin said following complaints from festivalgoers made after the two-day event took place over the weekend.

On Monday evening, Fake Virgin made an official announcement on its Instagram account, on which it explained, “We repeatedly made sure with the production company that it was safe enough to go ahead with the performances.”

“We went ahead with Amine’s performance with their consent. However, Daniel Caesar and Anne-Marie’s managements concluded that they could not perform, based on ‘safety issues.’”

According to Fake Virgin, “The organizing company had to make a hasty decision between the production company, which argued that there weren’t issues with safety, and the artists’ agency, which argued that it wasn’t safe. We consequently decided to cancel the performance upon the requests.”

The two-day music festival held at the Paradise City Hotel and Resort in Incheon abruptly canceled scheduled shows from singers Daniel Caesar and Anne-Marie just minutes before they were set to perform on Sunday, causing great backlash from attendees.

While the festival notified the attendees that the shows were canceled “due to weather conditions,” singer Anne-Marie later posted a series of tweets claiming that it was not her decision.

“I still wanted to go on stage and was told I would have to sign an agreement where I would be liable for people’s deaths if the stage broke,” she said. The tweet has since been deleted. She later held a performance at the Paradise City Hotel’s Rubik Lounge for her fans for free.

Since Sunday, attendees have taken to social media to ask for a full refund plus compensation from Fake Virgin.

But according to the organizer’s latest statement, they will only provide an 80 percent refund to those who booked a ticket on Sunday, and a 40 percent discount to those who had a two-day ticket.

While it apologized for having kept the attendees waiting for hours, it denied responsibility for canceling the shows.

It added, “Anne-Marie’s claims that she was told to ‘sign an agreement’ is groundless, which is why she took the post down. We have not demanded any artists, including Anne-Marie, to sign such an agreement.”

Attendees have reported the festival organizer to the Korea Consumer Agency asking that they be provided with a full refund, not a partial one.
