BAT Glo sens heat-not-burn cigarette also does vaping

British American Tobacco (BAT) Korea on Tuesday launched its Glo sens heat-not-burn cigarette in Korea.

The new Glo sens is a follow-up to the Glo series 2 heat-not-burn cigarette introduced in 2018. The new version is powered by taste fusion technology, which combines the heat-not-burn technique with vaping technology. The company hopes that by combining the technologies, the product can appeal to a range of smokers, including those that prefer vaping, regular cigarettes and heat-not-burn cigarettes.

“We are very excited to launch Glo sens, an innovative new product, for the first time in Korea, which is one of the most challenging and dynamic markets in the world with distinctive consumers of IT-friendly, social and fast-moving trends,” said Kim Eui-soung, CEO of BAT Korea, at the launch event held in Seongsu-dong, eastern Seoul, on Tuesday.

“It is essential that we keep on top of these fast-moving consumer trends and continually look to expand and improve our product offering to ensure we can provide our customers with satisfying alternatives to smoking.”

To combine vaping and heat-not-burn cigarettes, the device uses its Neo Pods, which contain flavored liquid. Once the liquid is heated, the hot vapor is passed over the tobacco.

BAT Korea said the new Glo sens produces vapor that contains around 99 percent less toxicants compared to a cigarette in terms of the nine harmful components the World Health Organization recommends need to be reduced in cigarette smoke. This does not mean it is less harmful than other tobacco products, admitted the firm.

The Glo sens costs 50,000 won ($45) while a pack of Neo Pods, which consist of three tobacco pods and one liquid capsule, costs 4,500 won.
