Busan film center to screen classics

Busan Cinema Center is hosting a special exhibition titled “Their Unexpected Films” starting from today to Sept. 1.

At the exhibition, 12 films by renowned filmmakers such as Charlie Chaplin, Jean Renoir and Jean-Pierre Melville will be screened at the center to provide the audience with unique film experiences that could broaden their knowledge and perspective.

Some of the films that are set to be screened are Melville’s “The Silence of the Sea” (1949), which seems like a crime-thriller film on the surface but is actually a psychodrama depicting the intensity of the lead character.

Films from Hollywood comedy masterminds Ernst Lubitsch and Chaplin will also be screened at the center.

Lubitsch’s “Broken Lullaby” (1932) penetrates deeply into people’s guilty consciences while in Chaplin’s “Limelight” (1952), the versatile filmmaker stars as the main character to portray his own life as a dilapidated comedian.
