BCWW shows off Korea’s best TV

Television distribution rights convention Broadcast Worldwide (BCWW) opened today at Coex in southern Seoul and will run until Friday.

Celebrating its 19th anniversary, BCWW provides opportunities for broadcast networks to export their contents to the international market. The event was founded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and is hosted by the Korea Creative Content Agency.

This year’s event expanded its offerings by introducing viral broadcast content.

Formerly centering around television drama series, this year BCWW is also introducing other popular programming, such as variety shows to foreign broadcast companies participating in the event.

For instance, during the “BCWW Format” conference being held today, the successful U.S. adaptation of local broadcast network MBC’s “Unmasked Singer” known as “The Masked Singer” will be used as an example of a local entertainment program being tailored for audiences abroad.

An estimated 2,600 international broadcast distributors from 200 broadcast companies in 40 countries such as the United States, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Chile, Brazil, Turkey, Japan and the United Arab Emirates will be in attendance this year.

“BCWW NewCon,” which opens on Wednesday, takes a closer look at various over-the-top (OTT) platforms and how the influx of 5G network will impact the future broadcast market.

On Thursday, the New Media Contest Awards Ceremony will be held to recognize and honor companies striving to create the best media content.

More information about the event can be found at www.bcww.kr.
