Mercedes-Benz Korea opens expanded distribution center

Aug 22,2019
Mercedes-Benz Korea held a ceremony to mark the extension of its auto parts distribution center in Anseong, Gyeonggi, on Tuesday.

While the Korean subsidiary of the German automaker had established the center in July 2014 by injecting 52 billion won ($43.25 million), it invested an additional 35 billion won in June last year to double the size of the center.

The construction to extend the building took a little more than a year.

The automaker said the extended center is not only twice the size, but also stores twice as many auto parts as before.

The center grew from 17,800 square meters (4.4 acres) to 30,500 square meters and the number of parts the center handles increased from 28,000 to 50,000. The center also adopted the latest technologies to organize parts more effectively, such as forklifts that move automatically by recognizing where parts should go using sensors.

The automaker added that the center will be able to create some 100 jobs in Anseong. The center employed roughly 50 people before it was enlarged.
