Mirae Asset Daewoo was selected the “best securities firm of 2019” by the Korea Finance Consumer Federation (KFCF) on Sept. 3. KFCF assessed 56 domestic securities firms independently to provide practical information to financial consumers and give insight with their consumer ratings.

While Mirae Asset Daewoo was ranked first place, Samsung Securities and NH Investment & Securities followed in second and third. The consumer rating was largely divided into 4 sectors: safety (40 percent), consumer friendliness (30 percent), soundness (20 percent) and profitability (10 percent), followed by 13 subcategories.

Mirae Asset Daewoo was ranked first in both safety and soundness, which led to good ratings overall. Samsung Securities was ranked second in soundness and third in safety and consumer friendliness to take the second place. NH Investment & Securities, which was ranked the best securities firm in 2017, has fallen a few steps down the ladder to third place.

Looking at the individual sectors, in terms of the safety category, Mirae Asset Daewoo ranked first and NH Investment & Securities and Samsung Securities followed. As for consumer friendliness, KB Securities ranked first, while Shinhan Investment Corporation and Samsung Securities came in second and third.

In the soundness sector, Mirae Asset Daewoo and Samsung Securities have each taken first and second place, and Korea Investment & Securities (KIS) was ranked third. The profitability sector had KIS coming in first, while the Seoul branch of UBS Securities and Meritz Securities ranked second and third.

“A favorable securities firm ranking is the best consumer report to rely on when it comes to selecting a securities firm,” said a KFCF official. “It is valuable information for consumers.”
