Typhoon shuts down music events

Sept 07,2019
The arrival of Typhoon Lingling led to a series of cancellations and delays of outdoor music festivals that had been scheduled for this weekend.

“We’ve been looking at reports from five different weather forecasts, including the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA), and found out that as of Saturday afternoon, the typhoon will likely impact the metropolitan area,” announced the organizers of the Have A Nice Day festival which was originally planned to be held this weekend on Nodeul Island in central Seoul. “We decided that the festival cannot guarantee the safety of attendees, the staff and the talent, and we had to cancel the event as a result.”

The Spectrum Dance Music Festival, which was set to be held at Nanji Han River Park in western Seoul, has been delayed and rescheduled to early 2020. The EDM festival’s delay came as a disappointment to many, as its lineup had generated a lot of buzz. Dutch D.J. Afrojack, D.J. duo Vini Vici and artists 4B, GTA, Valentino Khan, Ekali, Salvatore, Kygo, Madeon and Raiden were expected to take the stage.

Dream Maker Entertainment, the organizers of the festival, promised that they would finalize the festival’s new date as soon as possible. The agency also announced that they will refund tickets for those who were planning to attend.

The Melody Forest Camp festival set to be held in Jara Island, Gangwon, was also cancelled, but Paju Folk Festival in Paju, Gyeonggi, will only postpone their event for a day. The festival will now begin at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. The majority of the lineup is expected to take the stage as planned.

The typhoon is expected to affect the country throughout the weekend.
