The head of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions Kim Joo-young, left, and the head of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Park Yong-maan sit together in the business lobbying group’s headquarters in downtown Seoul on Monday. This is the first time the two have met since October 2017.

The labor union representative raised concerns over the expansion of flexible working hours.

“There are a lot of people that die from overworking despite achievements in reducing the working hours with much difficulty,” Kim said.

The business groups have demanded the government allow for a period in which flexible working hour are scheduled to be expanded as many businesses, especially SMEs that run factories non-stop, will struggle to hire additional workers. [YONHAP]
