This is today's anchor briefing.

The black hole, a darkness from which light cannot escape that swallows all objects, is feared because it is an unknown territory that cannot be reached by humankind.

“A black hole is not completely black”

However, physicist Stephen Hawking who researched black holes for a long time said the black hole, unlike its name, is not completely black.

Hawking radiation
A theory that a black hole, in fact, emits energy particles and eventually evaporates.

He discovered that black holes not only pull in energy but also emit it. He also explained that there is clearly a way out to escape from it. Of course, this is the story of the universe, a long way off from us.

What should we do with the black hole that has been pulling us in for nearly two months? Today (Oct. 3), Gwanghwamun Square was full of opposing voices following a candlelight rally held in Seocho-dong last weekend.

A National Assembly hearing and even a parliamentary audit… And the voices filling up the streets on weekends and holidays… The so-called ‘Black hole political situation,’ in which a single issue dominates all other issues, has been pulling everything in… Will there ever be an end to this black hole?

“If you feel you are trapped in a black hole, don’t give up. There is a way out.”
-Stephen Hawking

Stephen Hawking, someone who felt a sense of despair physically, knew a way to escape through experiences. Suffering from the Lou Gehrig's disease, he communicated with others and gave lectures using only two fingers that he could barely move. Even when he was not able to move his fingers, he used facial muscles to operate a computer and continued his research.

“My greatest achievement is being alive today”
-Stephen Hawking

As someone who sought opportunity even in a situation in which most would despair, for Dr. Hawking, a black hole, whether in the realm of science or in life, was no longer a pitch-black prison.

Whether it was what we wanted or not, won’t the black hole that has been pulling us in be the same? Even if it seems endlessly dark and hopeless, there must be a way out if we look at the abyss of darkness.

*endlessly: 한없이 * abyss of darkness: 어둠의 심연

“A black hole is not completely black. There must be a way out.”

Just like the quote from Stephen Hawking, a black hole cannot be completely black.
