Doosan Heavy wins contract to service three gas turbines

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction said Wednesday that it has won a contract to service three gas turbine exhaust cylinders for the Ulsan Oil Fired & Combined Cycle Power Complex.

Exhaust cylinders are structures connected to the end of gas turbines that are frequently damaged from being exposed to high temperatures.

Korea’s leading power equipment maker has been working since 2013 to develop its own gas turbine as a government-sponsored project and is hoping to become a major gas turbine servicer.

Doosan Heavy is the first local company to service gas turbines in Korea, all of which at this point are made by foreign companies. Most of the 149 turbines are also serviced by foreign companies.

Doosan Heavy won its first service order from Korea East-West Power to provide maintenance for a gas turbine exhaust cylinder earlier this year. The company said the state-run energy company decided to extend the partnership after evaluating Doosan Heavy’s servicing skills.
