Posco finds extra 30 years of Argentinian lithium supplies

Posco said Wednesday that it found additional reserves of lithium in a salt pan in Argentina that it acquired mining rights for.

Choi Jeong-woo, chairman of the steelmaker, on Saturday visited the construction site of the lithium mining demo plant in Argentina it is building to congratulate the team on the recent exploration result and to encourage workers.

The company had expected to produce 25,000 tons of lithium hydroxide, a key material used in rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, every year for 20 years. According to the latest exploration, however, the company found there were reserves to produce the same amount for over 50 years.
