Korean film fest to open in Madrid

The 12th Korean Film Festival will kick off in Madrid on Tuesday and run through Sunday at the Korean Cultural Centre and Palacio de la Prensa Cinema in the Spanish capital.

In celebration of 100 years of Korean cinema, this year’s edition of the annual event will spotlight films featuring Jeon Do-yeon, Kang Soo-yeon and Kim Min-hee, who have been awarded Best Actress at the Cannes, Venice and Berlin International Film Festivals, respectively.

“Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds” (2017) was selected as the opening film for the festival. Other works that will be screened include “The Host” (2006) by Palme d’Or-winning director Bong Joon-ho, “Swing Kids” (2018) and “The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion” (2018).

A total of nine films based on this year’s three keywords - “thriller,” “box office hits” and “two Koreas” - will be screened.
