Samsung’s Lee attends memorial for grandfather

Samsung Electronics Vice Chair Lee Jae-yong attended the 32nd ceremony to mark the death of his grandfather and the conglomerate’s founder, Lee Byung-chul, held Tuesday in Yongin, Gyeonggi.

This is the first time in two years that Lee has attended the event. In 2017 and 2018, he stayed away after he was charged for bribery related to former President Park Geun-hye.

After the ceremony, Lee invited roughly 50 CEO-level executives from Samsung affiliates for a meal. The last time Lee sat down for a meal with the Samsung CEOs was in 2010.

Lee expressed gratitude for their “commitment to management despite difficulties from in and outside the country.”
