Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings Vice Chairman Kwon Oh-gap has been promoted to chairman, the company said Tuesday.

The promotion comes alongside a reshuffle of Hyundai Heavy Industries affiliates. A total of 74 executives were promoted, including 35 that were newly appointed. The chief executives of the affiliate were not changed considering the difficult management conditions at home and abroad, according to the holding company for the shipbuilding group.

Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings said Kwon will focus on navigating various issues including the takeover of Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

Kwon, who is not a member of the Hyundai owner family, entered Hyundai Heavy Industries in 1978 and climbed up the ladder to serve as chief executive and vice chairman of Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings from 2018.
