‘Black Money’ tops 2 million tickets

Korean film “Black Money” broke through 2 million ticket sales on its 16th day of release, according to Korean Film Council on Thursday morning.

The film, featuring veteran stars Cho Jin-woong and Lee Ha-nee, is based on a real stock market fraud case in which a U.S. equity fund Lone Star’s illegal takeover of Korea Exchange Bank.

Meanwhile, the film’s director Jung Ji-young had openly criticized the screen domination of the Disney animated franchise, calling it “unfair competition.”

Based on Wednesday’s box office sales, “Frozen 2” and actor Lee Young-ae’s “Bring Me Home” took the first and second spot, with “Black Money” trailing in third place.

The film showed in 709 screens nationwide, while “Frozen 2” took almost three times as many, taking up a total of 2,094 screens.
