LG Electronics on Thursday introduced a device that will allow for the growing of vegetables indoors.

The device looks like a large refrigerator with shelves. It controls temperature, provides artificial light and water and generates an internal breeze.

Everything can be monitored and controlled by smartphone.

LG Electronics will be introducing the device at CES 2020, scheduled for Jan. 7 through Jan. 10 in Las Vegas.

Herbs, leafy green sprouts and root vegetables can be grown inside the device. It takes around six weeks, two weeks and four weeks, respectively, for them to fully grow, according to LG Electronics.

The company plans to sell packages of materials necessary for growing vegetables.

Technologies from other LG Electronics products are used in the device. The temperature control system is from the Dios refrigerator, and the water supply control function is from LG PuriCare water purifier.

Air-conditioning is from the company’s Whisen air-conditioners.

Customers can monitor the plants using the smartphone app, which also provides information about growing plants.

“It will help consumers feel the joy of raising a variety of plants conveniently without having to leave home,” said Song Dae-hyun, head of LG Electronics’ home appliance and air solution division, in a statement.

LG said the price of the device has not yet been determined.
