New Years Eve game proves to be a slam dunk for KBL

The Korean Basketball League (KBL) hosted another successful New Year’s Eve game on Tuesday.

A total of 7,833 fans came out to a match between the Busan KT Sonicboom and the Changwon LG Sakers at Sajik Arena in Busan to ring in 2020 with the KBL. The game started at 10 p.m. and by the time the game was finished, the fans were ready to start counting down to the new year. Although the Sonicboom was missing its star player Heo Hoon and the Sakers were missing their star player Kim Si-rae, fans were still treated to an exciting matchup between the league heavyweights.

The Sonicboom defeated the Sakers 84-66 and ended their five-game losing streak with the win.

Since the 2016 season, the KBL has been scheduling a match that starts late on New Year’s Eve and finishes in the new year. It is considered a special event for both fans and players, as they get to count down and celebrate the New Year together.

Originally, Sajik Arena only sold 6,000 tickets to the game, but due to high demand, the arena opened up seats on the second floor.
